Overview

"An abortion is when the pregnancy is ended so that it does not result in the birth of a child. Sometimes this is called ‘termination of pregnancy’" (Bpas 1). Abortions are being decided as an adequate solution to a mistake made by women, whom are mostly under the age of 25 years old. The Center For Bio-Ethical Reform states that "50% of women obtaining abortions in the U.S. are younger than 25: Women aged 20-24 obtain 33% of all abortions; Teenagers obtain 17% and girls under 15 account for 1.2%" ("Abortion Facts" 1). Also, the Center For Bio-Ethical Reform says that "black women are more than 3 times as likely as white women to have an abortion, and Hispanic women are roughly 2 times as likely" ("Abortion Facts" 1). According to Lawnix, abortion became constitutional in America after the landmark Roe v. Wade case in 1973; it says that "state criminal abortion laws that except from criminality only life-saving procedures on the mother’s behalf, and that do not take into consideration the stage of pregnancy and other interests, are unconstitutional for violating the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment" ("Roe v. Wade" 1). Since Roe v. Wade, there has been over 56 million abortions in the United States; roughly 3,000 abortions a day. There are many ways to getting abortions like medications, pills, or the operation. Over one-third of abortions in America happen after 16 weeks gestation; after 16 weeks the baby has a fully-formed body, the ability to move, a heart and circulatory system, the ability to breath, fully-formed face, and genitals has formed. Umberto Castiello of the University of Padova, Italy reported "unborn babies have the ability to interact as early as 14 weeks into the pregnancy" ("Number of Abortions" 1). One can only wonder why someone could kill a baby that is literally living inside of their mother? The sickening fact is that over 56 million unborn babies were killed without a voice in the decision, and the law allows it! Abortion is the genocide of innocent children who don't have a say in their fate, and many people fail to see the reality of it.
